Keeping things running smoothly is not for the faint of heart. There are always all kinds of mini crises that need to be dealt with and, at RGU Las Cruces, Felicia Manzanares is the right woman for the job.
Whether it’s a building alarm malfunction, a credential that needs to be renewed, or a scheduling issue, Felicia is the one who makes sure everything seems like “business as usual,” so that the providers and patients can experience a calm, soothing atmosphere in the office.
Keeping things moving behind the scenes
Felicia has been at RGU since the office opened in 2009, so she has the experience and knowledge to keep the office in order behind the scenes.
“My main function is day-to-day operations and helping the physicians have a smooth-running clinic,” says Felicia. “I work with the credentialing people and with the administrative offices at the hospital when the doctors are on call.”
Felicia is also responsible for running the human resources (HR) department in the RGU Las Cruces office, which has more than 20 employees. So the staff depend on her a lot for any personnel or other HR questions they might have.
Patients are always the priority
As a two-year breast cancer survivor, Felicia can connect with many of the patients that walk in the door. She knows what it’s like to be in their shoes, and although patient care is not her main job description, it is alway foremost in her mind.
“The best part is when the patient gives a compliment,” she says. “Whether it is for the front desk or the physician or a medical assistant who has gone over and above, the patients really appreciate what we do, and I love it when I hear them say so.”
Felicia also has a long-standing relationship with many of the physicians. In fact, she worked with some of them before RGU Las Cruces existed.
“I have worked for some of the doctors here for almost 20 years,” says Felicia. “I started out working for working for Dr. Kolosseus’s dad, who was also a urologist.”
Family is where her heart is in Las Cruces
Felicia is a Las Cruces native who lives here with her husband. She also has two daughters and four grandchildren. Being there for them is the most important thing for her outside of work.
“I want to be there for all their important moments,” she says. “The things like graduations, weddings, recitals — those are the things that are valuable to me.”
