Paloma Becker, NP, is all about serving patients in her hometown. She received her schooling at the University of Texas at El Paso and has been working here in the Sun City ever since.
“It is difficult recruiting practitioners in El Paso,” says Paloma. “So many people get their education and then move on from here. I like the fact that I am serving the local people.”
She is trained in acute and critical illnesses, as well as chronic illnesses, and she recently received her Masters of Science in Nursing with an Adult/Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP-BC) emphasis from UTEP. That will be her role here at RGU.
Being bilingual is another way she is able to connect with her patients. Providing them with the highest quality care in a culturally sensitive atmosphere is her philosophy for getting the most positive outcomes.
Helping patients thrive during tough times
Paloma has worked for many years both in acute care, where she managed patients with unexpected or short-term illnesses, and with patients facing chronic or recurring illnesses. At the Del Sol Medical Center Intensive Care Unit, her position as a Registered Nurse allowed her to treat acute and critical patients with either life-threatening or high-risk conditions. Following DS, she joined the practitioner’s team at Kindred Long Term Acute Care Hospital.
As an administrator at the El Paso Children’s Hospital, Paloma oversaw all in-house day-to-day operations, including managing productivity and responding to all emergencies.
Her wide range of experience has prepared Paloma to provide her patients with both a calming presence in the face of tough health challenges as well as to help them manage their specific conditions. At RGU, she wants her patients to thrive no matter what difficult health circumstances may be present. Her specific interests include overactive bladder, chronic cystitis, kidney stones, and prostate cancer, although she sees patients with a variety of conditions.
Here for her patients, and here for her hometown
Paloma loves her animals and enjoys a good read. Her favorite author is Oliver Sacks, a neurologist who wrote books based on many observations he made in his medical practice. His books include The Man who Mistook his Wife for a Hat and Awakenings, which was made into a movie starring Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in 1990.
Paloma loves living in El Paso. When she is not at work, she is usually enjoying all that the city has to offer with her beloved puppies, Bear and Cupcake.
“El Paso is my hometown and I want to care for the local people and better my own community in order for it to flourish,” she says.
